Happy Monday, Vol. 5

Happy Monday!! I am happy that we had a very nice weekend. We had two birthday parties on Saturday – one for a 6-year-old and one for a 25-year-old. Both were fun.

I’m happy that yesterday we met friends for lunch at Utsav which is a new Indian restaurant in Vernon, CT. It was a buffet and there was so much yummy Indian goodness there that I ended up going for thirds of a few items. I was so full that I didn’t have dinner last night and even when I woke up this morning I think I still had some Indian food in my belly. It was excellent.

I’m happy that this is my first full week back to work for 2009. Technically, I was back from the 5th through the 9th but that first week after two weeks off is more catching up and readjusting than actual work.

So why am I happy that it’s a full week of work? Well, first off, I’m fortunate that I get enough vacation time to occasionally give myself an extended weekend when I feel the need. I’m also hoping that this full week back will get me back into some sort of schedule. I’m really hoping that I can get into the habit of getting to the gym. I’ve been pretty sporadic with it so far in 2009 and while I never made any sort of resolution to get back to the gym, I know that I feel better when I get there.

I’m happy about the early decisions Obama has made. He’s actually
using science as a basis for his decisions - like allowing individual states to set vehicle emission standards after Bush tried to block it - link. A president listening to science? What a refreshing change.

He’s overturned Bush’s order to deny funding to international groups that actually educate people on abortion.
Link Awesome, just awesome.

Obama stated in his inaugural address, “We will restore science to its rightful place, …” A-frickin-men. I read a
column by conservative Mona Cheron and in her “analysis” of Obama’s inaugural address she included the following:
“We will restore science to its rightful place” – who moved it?
Um, George W. moved it.  Where have you been?

But he’s gone now. First Monday without him in the White House. And if that’s not enough to make for a Happy Monday then I’m not sure what is.
